seems the house of lords just allowed a couple to design a baby so that they can harvest some umbilical cord blood from their baby in order to allow stem cell treatment of their other child who has a genetic disease. while difficult, i'm a bit uneasy with using/creating other people for the benefit of others. seems like a very small step from human organ farming and the like. it also reminds me of this csi episode where a mother kept on harvesting one of her child's organs and blood for the sake of the other child. this other child then killed the younger one so that he wouldn't have to donate anymore, which apparently was causing him considerable pain. (csi fans, don't kill me - i heard this second hand and some time ago, too.)
